Hey, neighbour!
Over the past few weeks my team and I have been attending town halls across Ward 4 to meet with neighbours concerned about development projects in their communities. Whether its new housing or daycares, I've enjoyed taking the time to listen and learn from the thoughtful comments that have been shared on these projects.
Community planning is complex. If it was easy we wouldn't need town halls and engagement sessions to balance the rights of landowners with the concerns of neighbours. The biggest thing I have taken away from these meetings is that everyone wants to build great communities, we just don't always agree on how to get to great. That is why conversation and listening has been so important to me, and I believe for the applicants for some of those more contentious development permits as well.
This week I voted favour during the Infrastructure and Planning Committee to begin the process to strengthen participation from the public in the City's planning process. As your representative on Calgary City Council, I want you to be better informed about what changes are proposed for your community and that your voice is considered. And that means hearing you at town halls and inside council chambers.

Over the past week Cllr. Kelly and the Ward 4 team have attended multiple community association board meetings, town halls, and events. We met with the Edgemont Community Association, Cambrian Heights Community Association, Triwood Community Association, Highwood Community Association, Rosemont Community Association, and the North Haven Community Association to help address the concerns of neighbours in those communities.
Cllr. Kelly also met externally with ENMAX and the Women in Need Society (WINS) regarding service in Ward 4. Internally he met with Calgary Salutes with in their efforts to celebrate the Calgary members of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Director of Mobility to advance the traffic safety concerns of Ward 4 residents, and did a site tour of the Manchester Fleet and Inventory Services buildings to better understand infrastructure and maintenance issues for the City.

On Feb. 17, there will be a Public Hearing Meeting of Council to address land use changes for sites in Ward 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12. Council will also decide on a proposed change to notifications for large scale land use changes that would affect more than 500 parcels, modernizing that process to be allowed via electronic notification. No items specifically for Ward 4 are being discussed at this meeting.
On Feb. 19, committee members for the City's Audit Committee will be meeting to hear the year-end report for the Audit Committee and to also hear the City Auditor's 2025 Annual Report. Committee members will also receive a quarterly investment update for the City's financial investments.
The meeting date has been set for the Public Hearing of Council to hear from Calgarians their thoughts on the planned repeal of citywide rezoning. Under the Municipal Governance Act (MGA) every land use change that occurs in Calgary requires that City Council hears from members of the public and considers their input before a vote is cast.
