Hey, neighbour!
Over the past several months I’ve had the chance to visit many of the City's business units to get hands-on experience on what City employees do every day on behalf of Ward 4 neighbours. Today I took part in the Fire Ops 101 firefighter training for council, which saw me and my colleagues enter a burning building to extract a child, attend an overdose scene to learn about the medical response firefighters provide and mental health supports firefighters receive as a result of these calls. We also learnt how to use the jaws of life, and to about water rescues—a timely scenario as the weather warms and more Calgarians take to lakes and rivers.
What these visits and experiences have given me is a better idea of how we need to be making decisions as a council on behalf of Calgarians. Whether it’s pothole repair, or parking, or even providing life saving services, these hands-on exercises help me to know where we can make these services more efficient and how council can be a better partner in service delivery.
I’m looking forward to continuing to connect with more City business units, and with more neighbours over the next several months to see how we can all plan together to make Ward 4 even better during the four-year budget deliberations in November.
