Hey, neighbour!
Earlier this month, a neighbour visiting Confederation Park noticed that the flag of our nation and the flags of Canada's provinces were looking faded and tattered. Myself and my team immediately got into contact with Parks and Open Spaces to have those flags replaced, and just this week a brand-new set of flags are flying proud once again.
With Neighbour Day this weekend, and Canada Day just around the corner, I have been thinking a lot about our nation and our province. One of the constant topics of conversation at City Hall amongst my colleagues, and in meetings I have is the spectre of separation. I have no doubt that that even the discussion has led to harms for Calgarians, both in how they view their neighbours and the economic impact from decreased investment that comes with uncertainty.
In a very real way, the replacement of those flags at Confederation Park is a symbol for how we must renew the bonds of connection in our communities. When something isn't working we must put in the hard work to fix what is broken, not simply walk away. For me, being a proud Calgarian who wants to make this city a better place is on the same level as me being a proud Canadian and a proud Albertan who wants to make my province and my nation better for all. It is my belief that we get to better when we work together, not apart.

On Monday, Cllr. Kelly met with the Calgary Police Association on issues related to the upcoming four-year budget. Following that meeting, he attended a lunch and learn about the City Auditor's 2027 audit plan for Calgary. The Ward 4 team attended the Heritage Calgary Report to the Community, where the '88 Olympics ski jump towers were the 1,000th addition to the Heritage Calgary asset inventory. The Ward 4 team and the councillor attended the Enmax Substation No. 27 rebuild town house for that ongoing project.
On Wednesday, the Ward 4 team visited the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society to learn more about their partnership with Parks and Open Spaces. Cllr. Kelly unfortunately had to skip the Calgary Awards, in favour of attending the Highland Park and North Haven community association AGMs in the evening.
On Thursday, the Ward 4 team met with the Director of Mobility on a potential initiative to improve pedestrian safety across Calgary. Cllr. Kelly attended the Chief David Crowchild Memorial Award during the lunch hour to honour this year's recipient Roy Bear Chief. Cllr. Kelly had a regular one-on-one with CAO David Duckworth, followed by a discussion with Administration about an emerging issue of Cowboys and late-night noise exemptions. During the evening, the Ward 4 team attended the Cambrian Heights AGM.
On Friday, Cllr. Kelly attended the annual shareholder meeting for Attainable Homes, Calgary Arts Development Authority, Calgary Municipal Land Corporation and Calgary Housing.
Over the weekend, Cllr. Kelly and the Ward 4 team will be attending multiple Neighbour Day events across Ward 4 and taking part in National Indigenous Peoples Day.
The Calgary Herald and CTV Calgary quoted Cllr. Kelly regarding his take on the asks by the City of Calgary for federal funding from the upcoming Government of Canada budget.

On Monday, June 22, Wednesday, June 24, and on Thursday, June 25, the Water Utility Oversight Board Chair Selection Committee will be meeting to work on selecting the chair for the new governance committee that will oversee the transformed Calgary water utility.
On Tuesday, June 23, Calgary City Council will be meeting for a Public Hearing Meeting of Council to discuss land use amendments in wards 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, and 14. Council will also be hearing a proposed land use and policy amendment that would redesignate lands in Ward 3 that have been set aside for the Green Line under special purpose reserve lands to a mixed-use general district.
On Thursday, June 25, Calgary Planning Commission will be meeting to discuss street names in wards 2 and 3, and land use changes in wards 5, 8, and 13.
On Friday, June 26, the Multisport Fieldhouse Committee will be meeting to discuss an update to the fieldhouse project.
