Hey, neighbour.
This week was obviously a really difficult one for a lot of Ward 4 following the news about Parker’s death. While there's relief that he was found, this was obviously not the news that any of us were hoping for. I want to thank Calgary Police for leading this search, but I especially want to thank every single neighbour who went out looking for this young man. You made a difference, and I’m proud of the commitment that each and every one of you showed to a vulnerable member of our community.
It's because of that commitment that one member of our community was able to find his shoe and as a result, a short time later, Parker himself was discovered. I hope at some point in the future, Parker's family can take some solace in how much he's meant to all of us through the last couple of weeks.
City of Calgary flags will be flown at half-mast at City Hall over the weekend to remember Parker. I also know that vigils are planned over the weekend for Parker, and I would encourage anyone who is able to do so to attend one of these vigils.
I encourage every member of the community who's been affected by this tragedy to reach out to loved ones, friends and family. And know that help is available through the Distress Center 24/7 at 403-266-4357.

 Paving work is ongoing on 53 Street NW and John Laurie Blvd. from Sarcee Trail NW to Shaganappi Trail NW. Paving began on July 18 for 53 Street NW, and on July 23 for John Laurie Blvd.

🔹 On Monday, Deputy Mayor Kelly attended the federal and provincial announcement of $52 million towards a renovation of the Olympic Oval. The Ward 4 team met with the planning department in the afternoon to discuss development permits and land use changes in Ward 4, and to share neighbour concerns with planners.
🔹 On Tuesday, Deputy Mayor Kelly attended a federal sporting announcement in Beddington Heights that the Government of Canada and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities would be building a new mini soccer pitch in Calgary to help address the recreation demands of Calgarians. He attended the Regular Meeting of Council after that announcement.
🔹 On Wednesday, Cllr. Kelly sat in Council Chambers for the contination of the Regular Meeting of Council. In the afternoon he met with neighbours and a representative of the Thorncliffe-Greenview Community Association about damages caused to properties by a development in that community.
🔹 On Thursday, Cllr. Kelly and the Ward 4 team met with mobility to discuss pot holes in Ward 4, and Cllr. Kelly had the opportunity to help fill a pot hole in order to better understand the process and needs of mobility ahead of the four-year budget in November. Over the noon hour the Ward 4 team attended a birthday luncheon with other wards to celebrate the birthday of a member of the Ward 4 team. The Ward 4 team attended a session in the afternoon with the Council Inquiry team to discuss how to improve communication between wards and administration. Cllr. Kelly and the Ward 4 team met with a faculty member from the University of Calgary to discuss ideas for improved community engagement.
🔹 On Friday, Cllr. Kelly and the Ward 4 team toured cSPACE to discuss arts development and downtown redevelopment of the Historic No. 1 Firehall. That tour was followed by a meeting at Heritage Park to discuss upcoming development plans by that Civic Partner. Cllr. Kelly met with the Veterans Walkway to discuss ongoing work on that project.
🔹 Over the weekend Cllr. Kelly and the Ward 4 team will be hosting a Ward 4 booth at the Tango 2 Echo at the Greenview BIA.

📰 Cllr. Kelly's position that ward budgets should be increased for some of the busiest wards in Calgary such as 7, 8, and 9 that are dealing with the brunt of development but is fine with his current office budget was covered by the Calgary Herald, and the CBC.
📰 Cllr. Kelly told the Calgary Herald that it was too early to determine what the size of the City budget would be due to debate continuing by councillors, and that it was premature to put any percentages out to the public before this fall's meetings on the budget.
📰 Cllr. Kelly was quoted by Global News regarding his stance that a lobbyist registry done property could increase transparency for Calgarians.

 Greenview BIA Tango 2 Echo Festival
Take in Calgary's most wonderfully weird weekend at the Greenview Business Improvement Area's annual Tango 2 Echo festival. Custom car culture, live music, public art, food, and more stretches over two blocks in the BIA from 35 Ave to 37 Ave. The motorcycle show and shine runs from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Aug. 1, and the Day Fest of Rides and Rods runs from Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
Cllr. Kelly and the Ward 4 team will be attending T2E this weekend, so stop by his booth on both Saturday and Sunday. We will have City of Calgary information available, stickers and colouring books for kids, and a limited supply of the much coveted Nose Hill goats trading cards.
