Hey, neighbour!
One of the fun parts of the job of a councillor is hearing from all our neighbours who have great (and "great") ideas for how to make Calgary an even better place to live. I'm only one person so I can't always action them all, but this month you have a unique opportunity to step up and help shape the future of Calgary in a very real and direct way.
Until September 1, the City of Calgary is accepting applications for boards, commissions and committees. These BCCs help shape the policies that come before Calgary City Council, and frequently provide essential oversight and review for services provided to Calgarians.
Some of the important BCCs that are looking for public members include the audit committee, which provides oversight and transparency for the public for City of Calgary finances and corporate governance; the Calgary Police Commission, which is the provincially legislated body that oversees the Calgary Police Service; and the Subdivision and Appeal Board which hears appeals from developers and the public regarding subdivision and development permit decisions.
Other BCCs include one that I chair, Calgary Salutes, which seeks to recognize Canadian Armed Forces personnel and their connections to Calgary; the Combative Sport Commission which regulates combative sporting events in Calgary like boxing and mixed martial arts; to the Saddledome Foundation which oversees the management and operations of the Scotiabank Saddledome.
I know that the neighbours of Ward 4 would be excellent additions to any of the BCCs looking for members. Please consider volunteering your time and expertise to help our city as a whole be an even better place to live by visiting Calgary.ca to submit your application.

🚧 Mobility improvements are underway this year for communities across Ward 4. Over 425 projects are underway and planned for Ward 4 communities, including 362 sidewalk and curb fixes, 41 streets repaved, and 6 new pedestrian crossings. 🌧️ This month's rain could mean flooding for neighbours with uncleared swales. Ensure that if your stormwater swale is cleaned of debris and blockages, such as rocks, leaves, or even fencing to ensure that stormwater doesn't cause damage to your property or other's. Council remains on break until the end of August, but despite well-earned vacation time, Cllr. Kelly and the Ward 4 team were still hard at work for you.
On Monday, Cllr. Kelly and the Ward 4 team held a meeting with the Veterans Walkway Project as part of Cllr. Kelly's work on Calgary Salutes.
On Thursday, Cllr. Kelly provided remarks at the grand opening of the Thorncliffe FreshCo grocery store.
On Saturday, Cllr. Kelly will be attending the 25th annual Chinatown Street Festival.
