Hey, neighbour! Over the past month you’ve probably seen a lot of road construction going on in Ward 4. From major access points to communities like 53 Street NW in Dalhousie or Berkshire Blvd in Beddington, to numerous residential streets in Edgemont, City of Calgary road crews have been working to bring our streets back into good condition. As I mentioned in my newsletter last week, Ward 4 has over 425 mobility projects underway for 2026, and over the next week I plan on sharing a deep dive on many of those projects on a community by community basis on my social media. What I am proud of though is that many of these projects are not only restoring our essential infrastructure to good condition, they are also restoring safety for drivers and pedestrians alike. Street lighting in Thorncliffe and traffic signal improvements in Rosemont are perfect examples. I’ve also heard loud and clear that when these projects are complete, neighbours also want to make sure that long-term safety and traffic issues are also addressed. Over the next few months neighbours will begin to see speed reductions on selected community collector and arterial roads. Locations like Bulyea Road, Northmount Drive, 78 Avenue NE, and Edgemont Drive which have seen a disproportionate impact from speeding. My Ward 4 staff have been working hard to connect the concerns from neighbours along these roads with the City of Calgary’s mobility team to make sure that neighbours feel safe on their own streets and commuters can get to where they need to go safely. When council returns in September, I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that infrastructure and safety improvements remains two of the top priorities not just for this year, but also for the years to come. - Councillor D.J. 🚧 Mobility improvements are underway this year for communities across Ward 4. Over 425 projects are underway and planned for Ward 4 communities, including 362 sidewalk and curb fixes, 41 streets repaved, and 6 new pedestrian crossings. 🌧️ This month's rain could mean flooding for neighbours with uncleared swales. Ensure that if your stormwater swale is cleaned of debris and blockages, such as rocks, leaves, or even fencing to ensure that stormwater doesn't cause damage to your property or other's. Council remains on break until the end of August. This week Cllr. Kelly and the Ward 4 team took some well earned rest time away from City Hall. On Tuesday afternoon, Cllr. Kelly met with the Ministry of Social Services and Assisted Living to discuss homelessness and housing in Ward 4. In the evening, Cllr. Kelly visited the Cambrian Heights Community Association Farmers Market to lend support to community association volunteers and market vendors. On Friday, the Ward 4 team visited the Calgary Pop-up Care Village to connect with social service providers providing wrap-around care for vulnerable Calgarians. |

Calgary City Council is on recess during the month of August. No meetings of council are scheduled to be held. Calgary Planning Commission will be meeting on August 27. Commission members will be hearing land use item LOC2026-0013 for a requested change from residential - contextual one/two dwelling (R-C2) to multi-residential - contextual low profile (M-C1) at 4015 Centre A Street NE in Highland Park. Members will also be hearing items for Wards 3, 6, 7, and 9. A confidential item addressing hotel development in the Culture and Entertainment District will also be discussed. |
